About Us

Jeri & Marty Millard, Our Founders

Our club hosted the Jacksonville Dragon Boat Festival each September from 2013-2018.  The money raised by this event stayed in the Jacksonville community, supporting the local non-profit (501c3), In the Pink...a boutique for women living with cancer.

Unfortunately, due to renovations downtown and unforeseen circumstances, the Jacksonville Dragon Boat Festival no longer takes place.  We hope to host this festival again in the future.  If you know of a lake or waterway that has the potential to host such a festival, contact Marty Millard at millardm@comcast.net or call 904-536-3475.

Our club introduced the first two dragon boats to the community on May 13, 2012 when we held our first practice.  We have teams for everyone and are continually expanding.

We are also very proud to have the only dragon boat training center in North Florida.  It is comprised of various equipment for Dragon Boat training and overall general fitness.   What better way to enjoy the great outdoors than paddling on the Intercoastal Waterway several times a week?  Dolphin sightings included in membership fees!

Our premier teams are made up of male and female paddlers who are committed to exercise, practice, and competition at the highest levels.  Our club has produced five team USA paddlers!

Our men's team is comprised of paddlers who are committed to practice and enjoy attending festivals to compete and build community spirit.

Our women's team is made up of a combination of women from all teams.

Often, our team members paddle together or paddle on more than one team.  If someone is needed, they usually jump at the chance to paddle with their club members!

We have an all breast cancer team called the Mammoglams.  This team likes competition, though it feels that they are winners before  entering the boat.  They have done quite well in the last couple of seasons, ranking 13th in New Zealand in April 2023.  In September 2024, the Mammoglams competed in World Club Crew Championships in Ravenna, Italy.  They ranked 6th of the 15 World Class Teams in the 10-person small boat division of Breast Cancer teams.  The hard work has paid off ladies!

Community Involvement

Our teams are defined by their involvement throughout the community.  We offer a variety of opportunities each year that expose the sport of dragon boating to others throughout the Jacksonville area.  Our teams also support the mission of a local non-profit organization, In the Pink.  In the Pink also sponsors our Mammoglams breast cancer team.  Though we have different teams, we often paddle as a combined group during practices and festivals.

In the Pink opened in 2009.  It is a Jacksonville-based non-profit boutique dedicated to helping women heal, cope and survive the effects of any cancer...physically and emotionally.  They provide everything the cancer patient needs in one location.  Services include wigs, headshavings, scarves, hats, lymphedema compression garments, post-surgical wear, mastectomy bras/prosthesis, skincare for radiation/chemotherapy, and a breast cancer dragon boat team.

We also wish to thank Atlantic Self Storage for providing space for In the Pink to store their overflow, as well as that of the Jacksonville Dragon Boat Club!  We love having your logo on our boats!  If anyone ever needs storage, we strongly encourage you to give

them a call!
